December DG meeting

The December digital group meeting will be on Tuesday, December 15, at 7:00 PM. Brian will be bringing goodies and John said he would make a fresh pot of coffee for us.

We will not be meeting at the Library this month. Instead we will be meeting at the Bellingham School District maintenance shop at 4060 Bakerview Valley Road, Bellingham. Here’s a map

Directions: Get yourself to the corner of Bakerview Road and Hannegan Road. Go East
(towards Mt. Baker) and the next road you come to will be Bakerview Valley Rd. There will be a building on the corner with a big neon sign that says “Culligan”. Turn right and the maintenance shop is the building next to Culligan on the same side. There isn’t much else out there so you shouldn’t get lost.

I’ll be listening on 146.74. Hope to see you all there!

Welcome New Techs and Upgrades

The FCC and ARRL got through the holiday backlog today and issued the new licenses and upgrades to the folks who attended the VE session at the AMRE on November 21. The FCC Database is at http://wireless2.fcc.gov/UlsApp/UlsSearch/searchAdvanced.jsp where you can find the list by entering Type “HA” state of “WA” and an effective date of 12/1/09. Congratulations to you all. If you missed this exam, W5NYT and his crew will be giving all license class exams at the Ferndale library at 10 am on Saturday December 19.

We are putting together a follow-up “class” for new hams that I believe is now confirmed for the AMRE (Radio Museum) for Saturday December 12 from noon until 4 pm. Tech class graduates will not be required to pay admission for this event, but a one year membership would be a nice “thank you” to them for providing such a great facility for our classes.

MBARC VP Jim AC7UM has secured a room at the Ferndale Library at 2222 Main street for the November, December and all 2010 MBARC board meetings. ALL MBARC board meetings are open to any interested members. The next meeting of the board will be Tuesday November 24, 2009 at 7PM.

Tech Class Nov 21

The November 14/21 Technician License Class held at the American Museum of Radio & Electricity concluded today with the administration of the ARRL/VEC exams. A number of other individuals came in to take Tech and higher exams. Of the 22 people who attended class on the 14th, 18 returned for the second class, and 17 of those passed the Technician exam. Thank you to the instructors; N1BA. AC7KY, KK7LK, AC7UM, and AE6K; and to the museum for the wonderful facility and hospitality. Thanks also to the VE team which showed up IN FORCE, making it an easy day for the liason (yours truly).

Exam statistics:

Technician grants: 19

General grants: 7

Extra grants: 2

OF NOTE: One fellow passed all three tests; walking in unlicensed and leaving as an Extra class. Two other folks passed both Tech and General.
